Twitter For Marketing: Three Biggest Mistakes Entrepreneurs Make – Part III

The third, and very common mistake entrepreneurs make when using Twitter for marketing their businesses… unfortunately very common, and often difficult to assess on your own…

Mistake #3: All Sales All The Time

If you are on Twitter to simply stand on your ‘soap box’ and tell people about your products and services, you are wasting your time. You will be ignored, or worse, un-followed.

What to do instead: Twitter is a SOCIAL network. Too many people open an account and then just send tweet after tweet talking about how great their product or service is…and then they wonder why it’s not working for them as a method of building a following and building relationships with people who might become prospects or clients.

You must take the time to interact with people, share information related to your line of work – information that will serve your followers and help them in ways that are related to what you have to offer. Share links to informative blog posts, articles, videos etc – either that you create or that you find and know they will either learn from or enjoy. Your job is to serve your followers – and when you do that right, you can also mix in the occasional offer or invitation to check out your products or services. And, guess what… when you do it right, people WANT to see what you have to offer. They become interested because they feel like you have their best interest in mind. Take care of them and they will begin to like you, and then to trust you… once that happens, they are much more likely to consider trying your product or service.
